Farmer's Market Season

Well the market season has started and even though the weather has been less than desirable, the markets have been busy! It's nice to see old loyal customers come for their summer fix of dressing, and it is equally as nice to see new faces try our dressing and love it as much as we do! The market is a good place to find an abundant amount of local produce and specialty items and really showcases so many of our local artisans. Please come out and sample our dressing and enjoy the wonderful things you can find only at the market! Check our website www.salad-sisters.com for market dates and locations.

The Beginning....

Our company started because our dad is a food pleaser...he wanted to make a salad dressing that he thought young teenage kids would like so much that it would make them want to eat more salads. It's a thing about him, he takes pleasure in seeing people enjoy food, especially food that he has made. So in the kitchen one evening he decides to make a blueberry salad dressing, why not, he loves blueberries so making it into a dressing made perfect sense. A little of this and a little of that, some trial and error and there it was, a fruit based salad dressing fit for the teenage stomach! In any case long story short, they loved it! (Oh I forgot to mention that the teenage crowd was the youth group he and my mother were leaders of in their church group)
So off he was back in the kitchen determined to make other flavors just as delicious! In the end he came up with 5 flavors...Blueberry, Raspberry, Strawberry, Papaya, and Calamansi (which is a Filipino lime).
Word got out of course, as good things do, and soon everyone was ordering dressings from him. At first he didn't feel comfortable taking money for something that he clearly had created out of love for all things edible, but soon he came to realize that sharing it with others, while covering his costs, was a good thing!
Quickly his little venture started to pick up steam and soon he found himself blending dressings in the kitchen for hours at a time. He made cute little labels that he printed off the computer that said, "Da Vince's" Salad Dressings...my dad's name is, yup you guessed it, Vince, thus the ever so clever play on words! Mind you he is a bit of a cheesy old Filipino man with a cheesy sort of sense of humour so it did come off as pretty darn cute!
Anyway, this went on for a couple of years and when we (his children...there are four of us) tried to encourage him to take his little business venture a little further he was anguished by the idea of having to do all the leg work to even get the dressings into a Farmer's market. So that was that.
Enter 3 daughters and 6 babies between us, we thought why not take on a small business project while we were all stuck at home with the little babes anyway...Of course we didn't want to have to "invent the wheel" so to speak, so we did what any savvy business person would do, we took one that already existed, and ran with it!
In a nut shell, that is how Salad Sisters was born!
